What it is
A weekly status update tells stakeholders where a project stands in two minutes of reading. It opens with an overall status (on track, at risk or off track) and one line on why, then lists what got done, what's next, the risks and what you need from the reader. The asks section is the one people act on.
When to use it
- Projects with stakeholders who don't attend the team meetings
- Client projects billed over several months
- When your manager keeps asking how it's going
How to use it
- 01
Set the status first
Change the callout colour and emoji to match: green for on track, yellow at risk, red off track.
- 02
Fill it from your tasks
Open the task tracker filtered to Done this week and copy the items over.
- 03
Name the ask
Put a name in front of every ask. Use @ to link pages they need to read.
- 04
Keep a series
Save as template, then create each week's update as a sub-page of the project.
Or have the AI draft your version
"Write a weekly status update for a website migration that is at risk because of a delayed content freeze, with done, next, risks, asks and budget used."
