Project brief template

One page that says why a project exists, what is in and out, who owns what and when it is done.

This is the page you get. Every block and row is editable.

What it is

A project brief is one page that says why a project exists, what's in and out of scope, who owns which part and when it's done. Write it before work starts and send it to everyone involved. If two people read it and describe the project differently, the brief isn't finished.

When to use it

  • Kicking off a project with more than two people
  • Briefing an agency or freelancer
  • Getting sign-off from a manager or client

How to use it

  1. 01

    Write the goal first

Put the outcome in the callout at the top, in one sentence with a number if you can.

  2. 02

    Draw the line on scope

List what's in and what's out. The out list prevents more arguments than the in list.

  3. 03

    Collect feedback

Share with comment access. Resolve each comment thread once it's answered in the text.

  4. 04

    Link the work

Mention the brief with @ from the task tracker or roadmap, so its Linked from list shows the work behind it.

Or have the AI draft your version
