What it is
A thesis outline sets out the research question, the hypotheses, a chapter plan with word counts, a timeline back from the submission date, the sources to read and your supervisor's notes. Word counts per chapter keep the literature review from swallowing the thesis. Each chapter sits in a toggle you can expand into a sub-page when you start writing it.
When to use it
- Starting a bachelor's or master's thesis
- Preparing for the first supervisor meeting
- Long reports or dissertations with a fixed deadline
How to use it
- 01
Write the question first
One sentence. Every chapter has to help answer it.
- 02
Budget the words
Give each chapter a word count. Check the total against the limit.
- 03
Share with your supervisor
Use a share link with comment access. Their comments stay next to the text they refer to.
- 04
Turn chapters into pages
When you start a chapter, create a sub-page for it and link it from the outline with @.
Or have the AI draft your version
"Write a thesis outline for a bachelor's thesis in environmental science on urban heat islands, with a research question, hypotheses, six chapters with word counts and a timeline."
